It is Food Allergy Awareness Week in Australia.
At 18 months, Lula’s diet is limited by her allergy to egg and a sensitivity to dairy. It is possible that she will outgrow both of these. Currently, as we await test results we are also trialling a gluten-free diet.
Here are five foods – some for her, some for me, that we can buy with the peace of mind that she isn’t getting any of the nasties she has to avoid.
1. macro Wholefoods Organic Original Corn Chips.
While corn chips are usually out because they are often flavoured using milk products, these yummy ones have the added bonus of being round. They are great by themselves as a snack, and are also handy for as an accompaniment to soups and the like now that bread is out.
2. Freedom Foods Low Salt Corn Flakes
In my opinion these are nicer than the leading brand’s corn flakes, and I think that’s because they are lower in salt. Good as brekkie (with soy milk) or as a dry snack.
3. Lowan Cocoa Bombs
A childhood favourite of Joe apparently (considering he ate most of them!) and while sugar is the second ingredient listed, it’s nice to be able to give Lula a chocolate flavoured treat now and then.
4. Orgran Rice & Corn pasta
While it doesn’t quite live up to “real pasta”, this cooks up quite nicely and is perfect for Lula’s bolognese. And she loves it, so that makes it a winner. She also likes their animal shape pasta, which comes in vegetable flavours.
5. Orgran itsy bitsy bears
These are a great little snack, along with Orgran’s outback animals biscuits too. Actually Lula likes the outback animals better, as evidenced by the fact there are none left to photograph.

Always check labels before deciding whether a product is right for yourself or your child. And sometimes manufacturers change their recipe (man, I hate that!)
Also, this post is not sponsored, I’m just putting this info out there for other people who might be in the same boat as me when it comes to finding egg-free, dairy-free, gluten-free products.
If you are in the same boat – please feel free to share your favourite products with me.
