Easy outdoor area art for kids (and grown-ups too!)

On our back verandah there is a large plywood board attached to the latticework which is painted in a terracotta colour. Its purpose I believe is for both shade and privacy.

Previous tenants of the house must have decided that its purpose was to hold a dartboard, something I deduced from the myriad tiny holes emblazoned on it in a circular pattern, and a scratched in declaration that ‘Fran got a bullseye.’

But recently as I sat outside I started to get a few ideas of what I could do with the big brown board.

And I came up with this:

Using chalk, I wrote a quote up the top, and  gave the kids free reign to decorate the bottom.

It wipes off with water whenever we want a blank canvas.

Which is great, because I get to change the quote as often as it takes my fancy.

Do you have any quote suggestions for me?

    • You are probably right but that would involve landlord permission and keeping the kids away from it while it dried – neither of which appeal to me greatly!

  1. Hi, fabulous idea in your backyard. Sorry my mind is a complete blank right at this minute and I can’t think of a single quote for your board!! Found your blog via Blogtoberfest!

  2. That’s a great idea! The kids must love it too : )
